Do Your Part for Everyday Green
Living:
Saturday Guest Speaker:
Terri Bennett, founder of Do Your Part, a program initiative to teach the
importance of reducing our eco-footprint. Bennett is a nationally recognized earth
scientist and meteorologist. Her goal is
to provide everyday green living ideas to busy moms, dads, and kids. It’s
daunting to think about all the help our planet needs. We face crises on many
fronts from depleting natural resources to widespread use of toxic chemicals.
Most of us want to lead healthier, greener, and more eco-friendly lifestyles
but it’s difficult to even know where to begin. That’s where she comes in.
Workshop/Activity Descriptions:
Make Your
Child a Life Long Reader
As mothers, we worry
about our children with how well they are reading. Hopefully, this workshop will put to rest
many of the questions you have concerning your child with reading and language
arts. Christopher Shaffer, a reading
inclusion specialist for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, will be speaking about
the challenges we face getting our kids to read (and maybe even enjoy it) along
with tips & tricks that we can use at home to instill the love of reading. This is for everyone from pre-readers to very
fluent readers. Join us and bring your
questions
Showgirl
Steps:
Come join Jenna Tyrell, 2010-2011 LKNMOM President and former
Cruise Line Performer, in a FUN workshop where we can laugh and learn a few
Vegas Showgirl dance steps. We’ll take a
trip a little ‘old school’ and work out a few Sinatra-esque tap steps. Then imagining enormous feather headdresses
on our heads, we’ll learn how to ‘tip’ (walk like a showgirl). Fun music, Fun MOMs, Fun Memories!!!
Smarty
Fashion Trends and Ideas:
Join Ashley Hoy as she helps us break the F.M.P. (Frumpy Mom
Syndrome) for autumn with her Smarty tips and resources. Ashley Hoy is a LKNMOM member and blogger for www.charlottesmartypants.com , a
web resource for Charlotte moms and moms-to-be on activities, events and
motherhood-related topics.
