President's Message

Hello NC Mothers of Multiples,

I would like to introduce myself so that you can get to know me better.  I grew up in Lexington, NC, started college at UNC-Greensboro and moved to Charlotte in 1994 to finish my accounting degree.  I met my husband in college and we married in 2000 after dating for 6 years (we didn’t want to marry while either was in school; he finished his architecture degree in 1999).  We decided to start a family and discovered at 18 weeks that we were having twins.  My identical twin boys were born in January 2004 ten weeks early and very tiny- 2 pounds and 2 pounds, 14 ounces.  That October we moved to Wilmington to be closer to my parents here and his family in Goldsboro.  I joined the Cape Fear Mothers of Twins Club in January 2005 and have been active here ever since.  I have served as our Social Chair, 1st VP Programs, Website Manager, Newsletter Editor and Playgroup Coordinator (multiple positions held in the same year).  I am currently the President and website manager of Cape Fear.

I have been a stay-at-home mom since we moved to Wilmington and that was a change.  It takes time to remove a large part of your identity and adjust to your new one.  Not to mention leaving behind all of your friends and what had been your home for 10 years.  I will always be grateful to my club and my playgroup members for being a great support group.

I did not ever picture myself being so involved on a board level in either of these organizations.  Fortunately my husband is very supportive and understands that I need some time away from the kids and home.  We also decided long ago that having twins was a very special thing and that we would always support our twin club.

I am both excited and nervous at the prospect of being your state president.  Our organization has seen lots of changes over the past few years.  To take over the reigns and continue to serve our local clubs is quite a responsibility.  I hope that you will provide me with feedback over the year with any suggestions, complaints, and ideas that will help the state organization meet your local needs. I look forward to working with the new board this year and appreciate that so many people were interested in taking part.

I was reminded at our convention last weekend how important our state organization is to me personally.  To see all these women together in one setting, moms of infants to moms who are now grandmothers is truly inspirational.  Talking with other moms going through similar issues is immeasurably helpful.  Exchanging program ideas with other clubs helps to keep our monthly meetings from becoming stale.  To renew a friendship with a high school friend is fun.  Our new state nominating chair and I went to high school together and met up again at the 2006 convention.

Thank you to the Double Digits club for a really fun weekend.  Next year we will be hosted by the Lake Norman Mothers of Multiples club with a Las Vegas theme.

Please take the time to email me your current club contacts and club delegates.  I would like to keep communication flowing to everyone and keep you current.

Take care,

Cathi Morse
